This project was done in solid maple with the exception of the inside of the tall cabinet. The counters were pre-existing so the wainscot is an overlay. I was able to pre-assemble the panels with pocket screws from the back so there are no nail holes or fastening marks on the front of the panels.

This is a much more economical solution to the wainscot look without the price tag. Here base cap molding is made into frames, then tacked on the wall under the chair rail. If the wall has texture on it, then it would be best to remove or skim over it below the chair rail. To finish simply paint it all one color.
