Trim Moulding

Most of the time I like to cope all my inside joints rather than miters, they just fit tighter.  Real wood is always preferred to MDF.  MDF is okay for crown molding since it should not get bumped or wet.  If the crown molding gets wet there are much bigger problems than a ugly piece of molding.  Real wood should always be used for baseboards since they are much more prone to accidents and cleaning.

Here are some of the profiles that I make for baseboards.  Each one here is about 1-1/2" inches of profile on the board.  These samples are on scrap pine boards, although, I can do this on any type of wood.  I have even made baseboards out of bamboo flooring.

Here was some fun.  Standard 5-1/4" crown through out the entire house except in the living room ceiling tray.  It has a two piece crown wrapping around the tear drops (corner blocks), not your everyday sight.

Here the crown molding was attached to the walls only, so that rope lighting could be dropped in latter. I especially like the way the crown molding turns up to follow the angled ceiling, which I have been told can't be done.

Here, I installed the bamboo floor and as an added bonus, used the same material to make the baseboards.  To do this I cut off the tongue-and-groove lengthwise, then put the 3rd profile from the top of this page on the bamboo.  Everything fit really well except around the fireplace, so there I ripped an angled piece out of the flooring to make a small shoe molding.

What should I say about this one?
